Behavioural Counseling

Assessing your pet’s triggers and using effective methods to establish healthy behaviours.

Many pets suffer from behavioural problems. They are one of the leading causes of surrender of pets to animal shelters. We provide insights into the underlying issues, tailored solutions for your family, and ongoing support to resolve the problem effectively. Starting with helping you socialize and train your puppy and kitten, through assisting in the management of aging and cognitive dysfunction in senior pets; we are there to make your pet companionship as rewarding as possible.

How do I know if my pet needs behavioural counseling?

Your loyal companion can benefit from behavioural counseling when their actions may cause harm. If you are finding it more difficult to control your pet’s naughty behaviours or establish yourself as the leader in your household, then it’s time to see a pet behaviourist to curb your pet’s bad behaviour. Here are some behaviours that are addressed during counseling:

  • Pacing, hiding, excessive licking
  • Loss of appetite
  • Excessive peeing
  • Aggressiveness towards other pets
  • Biting, growling or hissing at people
  • Soiling the house or destroying furniture

What is causing my pet to behave poorly?

Sometimes your pet’s behaviours may be due to an unknown health problem, this is why it’s important to have them examined by a veterinary professional. Once all health issues are ruled out, we can begin to assess their lifestyle to figure out the root cause. Your pet may be acting out for the following reasons:

  1. Changes in their environment - small things such as moving your cat’s litter box or their food or water bowl can bother them
  2. Loneliness - your cat or dog may be acting out of boredom as they spend most days alone. Your loyal companion may also develop separation anxiety.
  3. New pets in the home - introducing a new pet to their territory may cause your cat or dog to act out.
